Kevin David Goodwin, also known as Achaz Israel, passed away peacefully at the age of 61 on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at The Banyan at Montclair care facility in Omaha, Nebraska.
Born on June 6, 1966, in Omaha, Nebraska, Kevin was the eldest of five children born to David Eugene Goodwin Sr. and Mary Jean (Clinkscale) Goodwin. He grew up alongside his brothers: Bryon Eugene, Randy Jerome, Darian Lloyd, and David Eugene Goodwin Jr.
During his years at North High School, before graduating in 1982, Kevin developed a passion for aviation. Encouraged by an unexpected but inspiring conversation, his parents provided the necessary support, allowing him to make history as the first Black "Cessna Pilot" to fly solo in the Omaha area.
In 1983, Kevin embarked on a career in media, joining KETV Channel 7 as a cameraman for daily and nightly newscasts. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he resumed his diverse interests in education. His professional journey later took him to Riverside, California, where he transitioned into opticianry, working for a local family-owned business. He later relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, where he put his media experience to use as a cameraman for the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association. Kevin was an entrepreneur at heart, launching a successful hot dog business that became a local favorite.Returning to Omaha in 1994, Kevin pursued a career in barbering at Bonner’s Barber College, becoming the last of the five brothers to obtain a barber's license. Continuing the Goodwin family tradition, he later established his own barbershop in "Old Town" Bellevue, Nebraska, all while maintaining his thriving hot dog business.In December 1997, Kevin married Rosario Lobo, and from their union came his beloved daughter, Izekah Lea Goodwin.Kevin was known for his intuitive and adventurous spirit. He learned to speak Spanish fluently and even lived in Mexico for a year, immersing himself in the culture. A family-centered man, he cherished spending time with loved ones and always prioritized his relationships above personal interests.
He was also a passionate tech enthusiast, possessing a strong aptitude for repairing and restoring gadgets. His love for music was just as profound—he enjoyed collecting and appreciating a wide range of artists and genres.
Kevin’s many God given talents and passions shaped his life until a severe stroke left him paralyzed for 18 years. Despite his health challenges, his resilience and spirit remained strong until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his father, David E. Goodwin Sr.
He leaves behind cherished memories with his daughter, Izekah Lea Goodwin; his mother, Mary J. Clinkscale; his four brothers, Bryon E. (Tunese A.) Goodwin, Randy J. Goodwin, Darian L. (Yvette M.) Goodwin, and David E. Goodwin Jr. (Pascha L), all of Omaha, NE. His favorite uncle, Dan Goodwin, along with a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, dozens of cousins, friends, and a special friend, Mr. George Greene. Kevin’s legacy of passion, perseverance, and love for family will forever be remembered.
