Alan Howard Kirshen

Alan H. Kirshen, 72, entered into peace Friday, November 30, 2018.

Alan Howard Kirshen, devoted son of Edward Paul and Louise (Holstein) Kirshen, and grandson of the late Samuel and Dora (Simons) Holstein; and the late Abraham and Mary (Quint) Kirshen, was born September 27, 1946, in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Alan is survived by his wife, Jean Poole Kirshen, his daughter, Dr. Deborah Thomas (Mike Chaney) of Charlotte, North Carolina; his son, Seth Kirshen of Kansas City, Missouri; grandson Desmond Chaney of Charlotte, North Carolina; sister Marjorie Ross of Pinellas Park, Florida; brother-in-law Alvin C. (Nancy) Poole, of Omaha, Nebraska; Uncle Dr. Harris F. Holstein and Aunt Marilyn (Kliman) Holstein of Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts; nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends.

Alan was a self-employed lawyer for 46 years before retiring in January of this year.
Alan was a past commander of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Kinsman Camp, Atlantic, Iowa. He was a member of the Big Grove Lodge #226, Knights of Pythias. He had many interests which included trains, ships, music, being a history buff, and a civil war re-enactor. Alan was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and book reader. He and his wife Jeanie, drove truck for many years all through the United States and Canada. He also enjoyed visiting many of the National Parks and the numerous baseball parks.
