Alice was born in Macy, Nebraska on November 22, 1948, to farmers George and Mabel Harlan. She was the oldest of two daughters and had five siblings Georger Jr., Robert, Leroy, Calvin, and Brenda. As a child , she was sent to the Indian School in South Dakota where the goal was to assimilate Native American children into western culture. From there, she returned to the Omaha Indian Reservation. With little hope of change in reservation life, she and a hand full of cousins at the age of twelve made the ir way to Omaha, NE.
She worked hard to continue her education, as she raised her children Lance, Pamela, Michelle, and Tara. She finally completed her GED in 197 8. Alice then enrolled at Omaha College of Health Careers where she learned skills as a filing clerk and was later hired at Mutual of Omaha where she worked for several years. She moved her family out of the housing projects and purchased her first home at 2502 S. 24th in south Omaha. Her last child, Latoya arrived in 1983. Her family was now in a safe middle class neighborhood with good schools. Although there were many struggles raising five children alone, she worked hard to keep her family fed and housed.
She was employed for 18 years at Walmart. Alice was determined to break generational cycles. After the death of her daughter Michelle, she became centered on living a sober life and her salvation became a priority. She received the Holy Ghost in 1997. Her legacy continues with nine grandchildren Quentin, Jamel, Ariana, JaQuez, Carlasia, Diavion, Camden, Aaliyah, and six great grandchildren.
