Anthony Burroughs

January 19, 1953 — October 26, 2024

Tony was born January 19th 1953 to Clair and Dolores (Thompson) Burroughs in Fairfax Missouri and grew up in Hamburg, Iowa.

After leaving high school he moved to South Dakota and worked for the Natural Resources Forestry Department. One year Tony and his team were proud to remove a tree that was sent to Washington DC as the National Christmas tree for the White House.

Tony entered the United States Marine Corp April 20, 1971 during the Vietnam War. He earned rank of Sargent, received the National Defense Service Medal for Vietnam War, Rifle Marksman Badge and Good Conduct Medal.

Upon discharge he moved to Omaha, NE and began a career with Shaver's Food Mart. He later joined the Nash Finch Corporation. Most of his career was meat cutter and market manager, while also being transferred to several locations in Nebraska then Minnesota.

He had also been employed by the Traut Company in Minnesota.

Tony and his wife Susan returned to Omaha from Sauk Rapids, Minnesota to retire and be closer to family.

He was hard working, loving, a funny jokester and enjoyed a full life of hunting, fishing, music, grilling, baking and landscaping. Prior to his military career, he enjoyed playing his drums for a band he had with his friends in Hamburg (The TWD's) and also drummed for his uncle's band.

Tony was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Sauk Rapids, MN.

He joined a Black Powder Muzzle loading rifle club while living in Holdrege, NE. He made his own era garments and accessories from leather and suede. He was quite proud of that accomplishment. Weekends were spent camping and shooting.

For years other special interests included his fascination with stargazing, the cosmos and the NASA space program.
