Monday, July 25, 2022, Artway Cast Jr. went home to be with his Heavenly Father. Artway lovingly called "Arty" or "Cookie" by his family was born in Gary, Indiana on August 15, 1952. He was the oldest of two sons born into the family of Artway and Bettye (Brackett) Cast. At an early age, Artway accepted Christ as the head of his life. He was baptized with the Holy Spirit and received his spiritual foundation at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. Upon relocating to Omaha, Nebraska, Arty joined Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral guidance of Pastor Terry L. Arvie, where he worshipped until his passing.
Artway fulfilled his contract with the Gary Community School Corporation and in 1971 graduated from Emerson High School. While at, Emerson, Artway played on the football as a Defensive Tight End and sang in the Glee Club Choir as a Tenor. Upon graduating high school Arty took his skills to Vincennes and Purdue Universities where he annually organized concerts featuring African American students and professors.
In 1981 he moved to Omaha, NE. For the next 39 years Arty worked for Campbell Soup Company and later the Bemis Bag Company. It was in Omaha where Arty met and married the love of his life Patricia. Arty loved fishing, gardening and spending time with his cherished granddaughter, Love. Together they enjoyed walks to the park as well as sneaking to get ice cream and McDonalds every day. Art was always making others laugh and was the life of the party. Artway was preceded in death by his son, Artway Cast III; parents, Artwat Cast, Sr. and Bettye Bracket Tolbert; paternal grandparents, Oliver and Ida Mae Cast; maternal grandparents, Rufus and Otis Mae Brackett and several aunts and uncles.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Patricia; mother-in-law, Victoria Jones; brothers, Martin, Paul and Demetrius Cass; sisters, Regina Reed, Shelia Cast, Sylvia Gunter and Delores Cade (of Tennessee); daughters, Vonetta and Tre'a; sons, Jemar and Brent; sister-in-law, Vickie (Gale0 Adams and Rachelle (Robert) Walker; brother-in-law, Dominic; aunts, Lois Johnson, Janet Douglas, Myrtle Cross, Otis Sewood and Sylvia Willis; uncle, Michael Brackett (of Indian and Illinois); special granddaughter, Love' Bryan; special cousin, Karla Wiley; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
