Barbara MacNaughton, age 86, passed away peacefully at Echo Hills Assisted Living and Memory Care July 26, 2023.
Barbara was born in Janesville, Wisconsin and was the only child to Margaret Aller Cullum and Richard Cullum. Her parents divorced shortly after Barbara's birth, and she never knew her father. Her mother, who went by Peggy, died of cancer when Barbara was 11. Her grandmother Ella Aller and Aunt Betty Aller raised her.
After growing up in Wisconsin, Barbara's choice for college was Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. While there, she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She also met fellow art student, Luther MacNaughton whom she married upon graduation. At the time of Luther's passing in September of 2021, they had been married 62 years.
Having been an only child, Barbara always wanted a family. While living in Des Moines, she and Luther had 3 children (Scott, Peggy, and Jill). They then moved to Omaha for Luther's career and had their 4th child, Peter. Omaha and the surrounding area would become their home.
Barbara was a fun, loving mother and wife. She was a good cook and was known for her liver and onions. If you like it, you know. Family and friends were the center of her life.
Barbara loved antiques and was very knowledgeable in this area. This love of antiques led her to start an estate business called Attic Pedaler which operated for 20+ years. She was also very active in The Questers, where she held numerous officer positions over the years, PEO and The Assistance League.
Barbara will be missed by her community of friends gathered from those business and community involvements, living on Parker Street, Izard Street, Lake Wakonda, Echo Hills and her church involvement.
Barbara is survived by 4 children: Scott MacNaughton (Terri), Peggy Baur (James), Jill MacNaughton (Bill Slaikeu), Peter MacNaughton (Rachelle); and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Celebration of life is September 16th 11:00am at First Central Congregational United Church of Christ (421 S 36th Street).
Burial service will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove, IA at a later date.
