Bennie Lee Cooperwood of 3812 Franklin Street, Omaha passed peacefully January 3, 2025 at Maple Crest Care Home with his sister, Travistene Cooperwood-Jones and daughter Wanda McCreary at his side. A longtime resident of Omaha, he was born in Clarendon, AR and grew to adulthood in West Helena, AR. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army. Bennie’s smile, his engaging and caring manner was his trademark. It served him well for many years in the hospitality industry. He was well-known and always in demand as a host. Bennie was an avid golfer and devotee of the Huskers. He is survived by his wife, Ruthie, sons Bennie, Ronald, Fred, Tracey and daughters Barbara, Wanda, and Thurza. 24 Grandchildren, 33 Great-Grandchildren, and 4 Great-Great-grandchildren. Surviving also is a brother, Daniel Cooperwood, Jr.(Linda), a beloved brother-in-law, Herman L. Jones, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 12, 2025, 12:00 P.M. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 3809 North 90th Street, Omaha, NE 68134. Services will follow at 1:00 P. M. with Pastor Steve Sheridan of Empty Tombs Ministries in Remembrance of Christ’s Resurrection as officiate and eulogist.
