Bertha was a fun-loving person who enjoyed connecting with people. She had the gift of hospitality and nurturing. Counselling and sales were in her DNA - definitely an influencer. She confessed Christ as a child at Mount Zion COGIC, later as an adult Bertha attended the Church of the Living God under the Pastorship of Rev. Nichols. She was a social work counsellor for many years with Greater Omaha Community Action (GOCA) and Douglas County Extension Service. Bertha retired form Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging in 2000. In retirement she served on the Metro Tech Community College advisory board providing input to improve the educational experience for students. She was also a foster mother to numerous children. Bertha loved reading, crossword puzzles, playing board games with family, and discussing politics. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, happily hosting dinner with friends and family around the table.
Bertha was Born on October 12th, 1938 to Marcellas and Dora Jones in Weleetka, Oklahoma. The family moved to Toledo, Ohio with the great migration of African-Americans into northern cities. She attended a private school where she had fond memories of daily doses of castor oil for health maintenance. Her father Marcellas Jones had a successful bricklaying business. At age twelve, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska to live with her grandmother Mrs Callie Bell Beck. Bertha attended Lake Elementary and Central High Schools. She met and married Joe W. Morrow in April of 1961. She passed away at home on April 23rd, 2021 at the age of 82
Bertha was preceded in death, by her husband, Joe Wille Morrow and son Darryl LeRoy Jones. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rev. T. Michael and Cheryl Williams, Omaha, Nebraska, granddaughters: Tamiko Davis, Los Angeles, California and Tamunica Williams, Omaha, Nebraska, Grandson: Christopher Spears, Omaha Nebraska, great grandchildren: AMarion Davis, Aiden Davis, Aston Brown, Los Angeles, California, Tyana Davis, Christopher Spears, Jr, and Talayah Foster Omaha, Nebraska, Great great grandchildren: Tyrell Richardson and Ariana Richardson.
A visitation will be at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM., on April 30, 2021. A funeral service is to follow at 11:00 AM. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
