On Sunday, December 27th, 2020, Beverly Joan Mattes Bev, passed away unexpectedly after being hospitalized for COVID 19. The exact cause is still unknown, but, regardless, it was way too soon. Bev had a lot of plans and was eagerly anticipating a trip to Arizona with one of her best friends, Kathy Dvorek, to enjoy warmer weather.
Bev was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska to Allen and Pauline Campbell. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Allen Jr. and Shirley. She is survived by her only son, Chad Mattes; brothers K Walter Campbell, Rick Bird Campbell, Robert Campbell, and Gary Campbell; sisters Bette Swantek, Pat East, Barbara Howrey, Peggy Sharrar, Kathy Thiessen, Ginny Czaplewski, Donna Miller, and Teri Fuhs; and many nieces and nephews.
Bev enjoyed her retirement years with her best friends, reconnecting with old friends and family, and rediscovering the joys of life. She was very supportive of causes and fundraisers, especially those that directly impacted her loved ones, such as finding a cure for Scleroderma for her sister, Teri. Bev loved arts, crafts, and music, frequently making crafts, including jewelry, to give as gifts to those she loved, and going to concerts. When her foot was cooperative, she also enjoyed frequenting antique and thrift stores. Those that knew Bev well know she had some tried and true food favorites including her peanut butter M&Ms, tuna and crackers, and the ever-so-odd combination of potato chips and cottage cheese!
Bevs one true love of her life was her son, Chad. She was such a proud mom and never missed a chance to brag about him. She celebrated a huge milestone with him this year when he earned his Bachelor's Degree and was so excited and supportive of him studying for his realtors license. Bev was also a mom to so many more, including her nephew, Bob Cope, his wife and children Angie, Jim and Makayla, and Chads close friends Chris Dyer, Chad Findeis, Brent Meyer, Chris Nowatzke, and Sean Workman. She always welcomed everyone with an open heart, a listening ear, and a full fridge. Bev did not have much in this world, but she had everything through her love and acceptance of everyone, and the returned love of her son, friends, and family. Her cheerful, caring heart will be immensely missed.
Bev passed the torch of unconditional love and unwavering support to her son. Chad loved and cared for his mother faithfully, providing her with a home, security, and support. As such, he wants to honor her memory in the best possible way. Bev had fond memories of two special places, Platte River, where she enjoyed getting away and relaxing, and Myrtle Beach, where she visited her brother Bird and his family. As such, her ashes will be spread at both places for eternal remembrance. Additionally, as a tribute to Bevs love of suncatchers and windchimes, some of her ashes will be placed in a memorial glass keepsake.
To maintain the health and safety of family and friends, Bevs memorial services will be planned for the spring, in hopes of a decline and eventual diminishment of pandemic-related sickness. In the meantime, we ask that family and friends share any photos they have of Bev, so they can be combined to create a memorial slideshow. Photos can be sent to Chad via text, Facebook or mailed. Additionally, a GoFundMe account has been set up to help Chad with expenses related to Bevs final arrangements and memorial service. If you prefer to mail condolences or contributions, you may send them to: Chad Mattes, 4931 S. 91st Street, Omaha, NE 68127.
