I know who My Creator Is...
Carl Lewis Tyler was born to Carl Lee and Cornelia Tyler on June 27, 1939, in Evergreen Alabama. He is the oldest of four children.
His acceptance of Christ led to a lifelong study of Christianity and the Bible. He studied other religions and philosophy's as well, including Islam, Hinduism, and the Qur'an. His final analysis was that the Bible is our Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth and that His Creator is the one true God.
Leader - Activist - Family
Carl was a natural born leader, everywhere he worked he became the voice of the employee, every organization he joined he became the voice of the Black community, every injustice he encountered he became the voice of the marginalized. He was known to challenge authority, call out inequities, and take over meetings if he deemed the speakers didn't 'sound' like they knew what they were talking about especially if they disparaged his beloved community.
Once while working at Vickers Inc., a Black employee was unfairly treated. The employee asked those around him to go get Carl, not his Union Steward. Once Carl learned of the incident, he called for a production work stoppage until Management came to the floor for a meeting.
After tense negotiations, Management conceded. The unfair treatment of the Black employee was acknowledged and corrected; Carl gave the order to end the production stoppage and production resumed. Carl continued to meet with Management until the policies that permitted these injustices were eliminated.
Carl's love of the Black community made him a widely sought-after speaker. His "Warrior" speech is legendary; if you haven't heard it, in its simplest explanation...
"We are all Warriors, who are called by the Creator to ensure the sustainability and viability of our community. We do so by coming together to protect and provide for one another especially those with the least among us".
At the tender ages of 21 and 18 respectively, Carl and Della Lafayette were united in marriage. Tanja, Carl, and Tameria (Tammy) were created from their union.
The Creator called Carl home on January 22, 2025, at the age of 85. Those preceding him in death are his son, Carl L. Chaney-Littlejohn, infant granddaughter, Lyric Marie Tyler; parents, Carl Lee Tyler and Cornelia Tyler McCreary; brothers, James 'Shoats' and Roy Tyler; Jimmy McCreary, and Bobby Joe; beloved grandmother, Hun Tyler; aunt, Malvina 'Mac' Payne and uncle, James Tyler.
Left to cherish his memories are his children Tanja Tyler, Carl Tyler, Tammy (Shaun) Francisco, Carletta Lawrence, and Orvell (Nicole) Lawrence, Sr.; grandchildren, Whitney, Joshua and Carl Littlejohn Jr.; TaShaunna and Tiffany Tyler; Carl Wells-Tyler; ASha, Anye' and Shaun-Michael Francisco II; TeOna, Martina, and Mar'Che Lewis; Larry Benson, Ty'ren, Omri, Amare', Ougust and Orvell Lawrence Jr.; sisters, Clara Mae Meeks, Betty (George) Mitchell and brothers, Eugene and Elijah (Vivian) McCreary. And a host of other precious relatives.
