Reflections of Life

Rev. Charles Miller Woods was born to the late Lanny and Margaret Woods on September 5, 1942, Des Moines, Iowa. He accepted Christ as his Savior at a early age. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his brother Garland, and sisters: Eva Jean and Maryann.

Charles graduated from East High School in Des Moines, Iowa, and began working at Kmart, a national retail store. Kmart transferred him to Omaha, Nebraska in 1968. He remained with Kmart as a retail manager until retirement. Charles met and married the love of his life, Elgie Lorraine Pierce, in 1973, Omaha, Nebraska.

Charles was a devoted church deacon. He had a knack for connecting with people; everyone he met was drawn to his warmth and kindness. Charles accepted the call into ministry and was ordained by Rev. Dr. Negil McPherson Sr. at Pilgrim Baptist Church, Omaha, Nebraska.

Following retirement from Kmart, Charles began a second career as a security officer for Nebraska Furniture Mart (NFM) and Metropolitan Community College.

His 2nd love was playing golf. On his days off, he could be found playing golf and volunteering at the Steve Hogan Golf Course in Miller Park, North Omaha. He was most proud of his multiple golfing holes-in-one. Charles also enjoyed bowling; he bowled on several league teams.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory, wife Elgie L. Pierce Woods of 52 years, Omaha, Nebraska; his brother, Gary Woods, Phoenix, Arizona; daughters: Pamela Battle King and Michelle Battle, Omaha, Nebraska; Tanya Waterhouse, Des Moines, Iowa; Felicia Woods, Omaha, Nebraska; and two sons: Charles Bernard Woods, Des Moines, Iowa and Steven Battle, Omaha, Nebraska.
