Clair Garfield Burroughs, 92, passed away on March 30, 2024.
Clair Burroughs was born to William and Lula (Chrisman) Burroughs on August 22, 1931 in Northboro, IA. He attended Northboro and Shelby Iowa high school, where he graduated.
Clair moved to Hamburg, IA and was elected mayor in 1958. He was a meat department manager and butcher until 1960.
Upon moving to Omaha, he worked for Shaver’s Food Mart and eventually became Director of Operations for the meat department. In 1969 he took correspondence courses from Cornell University.
Clair was a member of the Masons, the York Rite, the Tangier Arab Patrol, Boone & Crockett Club and Roadrunners. In Roadrunners, he occasionally drove children and their families to the Shrine Hospital in Minneapolis MN. Clair was also chief aide for many years and earned the status of “Chief Aide Emeritus”.
In his retirement, Clair enjoyed hunting, fishing, family and the Shrine. He was courteous, dependable and trustworthy while always helping others as he could.
He enjoyed and loved his family and always had a new story or poem to recite.
Clair is proceeded in death by his parent, wife Carolyn, daughter Angela, sons Tom and Tim and his grandson Brandon Price. He is survived by his wife Neva, son Anthony Burroughs (Sue Burroughs), daughter Claire Aurora, daughter Chris Block (Jerry Block), daughter Colleen Moore (Randy Moore), son Alan Cowles (Elease) and son Lyle Cowles (Ann). He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Good Shepherd Funeral Home on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to The Shrine Patient Transportation Fund.
