David Joseph Cunningham

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David J. Cunningham, who left this world peacefully on April 9, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on June 2, 1949, Dave lived a life full of love, strength, and humor that touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Dave was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, and graduated from South High School. In 1969, he met the love of his life, Diane, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and three wonderful children.

He worked as a dedicated route salesman for over 30 years at Rotella’s Bakery, forming friendships across the community with his warm personality and strong work ethic. Throughout his life, Dave wore many hats, but none more proudly than that of a loving grandfather to his eight beautiful grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.

If Dave wasn’t at home, you could find him on the sidelines or in the stands, happily cheering on his grandchildren as they played their favorite sports. Watching them compete and grow was one of his greatest pleasures.

Dave was known for his unwavering wisdom, tireless work ethic, and his deep devotion to his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the values he passed down, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of over 53 years, Diane; children, Kimberlee (Erik) Laumann, Michele (Ryan) Urzendowski, and JohnDavid (Kari) Cunningham; grandchildren, Cameron (Taylor), Evan, Quentin, Andrew, Nolan, Jackson, Brooklyn, and Landon; brother, Kevin Cunningham; and a host of other loving family and friends.

He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished.

Services will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 20500 West Maple Rd, Elkhorn, NE 68022. Visitation: Monday, April 14, 2025 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM with Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. Memorial Mass: Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 10:30 AM. Please direct memorials to the Nebraska Humane Society.
