Dean Stewart Winans, 74, passed away on August 5, 2023. He was born on October 13, 1948, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Dean was a gentle, generous, quiet, and kind man. He is survived by 2 sisters, Nancy Winans of Staten Island, New York, Patty Giles of Arlington, Texas, and Ann Mellen, longtime friend and companion.
Dean grew up in Carson, Iowa, before his family relocated to Omaha in 1960. As a young boy, he built soapbox cars for the Omaha Derby, showcasing his creativity and love for mechanics.
Following high school, Dean attended the University of Omaha and worked at Boys Town before joining the Marines. He bravely served his country in Vietnam. He began his career at Cordel Motors, eventually starting his own business in his garage at home, then buying an existing shop on Walnut Street. For 50 years, he served many of the Mercedes Benz owners in Omaha.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Dean had a zest for life. He enjoyed horseback riding, scuba diving, and golf. These hobbies brought him joy and allowed him to connect with nature and others who shared his interests.
Dean will be missed greatly by family and others.
