George Arthur Davis

June 27, 1947 — March 7, 2019

George Arthur Davis was born June 27, 1947 in Texarkana, AR to Jeremiah and Vinnie Lee Davis. He was the firstborn of nine children.

Some of George's early childhood years were spent with his grandparents on their small farm. They nicknamed him "Man," for "mannish boy." His grandfather had a mule named Blue, who would only let Little George put a bridle on him. So, his grandpa, who George called "Mr. Jafus," would stand him on a large crate so he could bridle Old Blue. That mule would rune whenever he saw Mr. Jafus coming toward him with that harness; but he would let Little George come over and put it on him.

George's parent's moved the family to Omaha in 1955 where he attended Long Elementary, Horace Mann Junior High and Tech High.

George was always a hard worker. The only job he ever failed at was his first, last and only paper route. He signed up to deliver papers one cold winter; but when his hands and feet got cold he brought back a whole wagon load of newspapers home, put them under his bed and never went back. Afterwards, he worked as a sub boy boy for 33 cents an hour plus tips and used part of his pay to school clothes and lunch for his little brother. In his adult life he worked at meat packing plants and construction jobs.

At eighteen, Georg married Albreatha Thompson. Three children were born unto that union, Teresa, George Jr, and Michael.

He was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ at Faith Deliverance church under Pastor Alious Gee Jr. Before he left this world, he recommitted his life to Christ and accepted forgiveness of sins and was at peace. His favorite scripture was Psalm 23, which he could recite from memory.

George had some rough edges on him, and wasn't exactly the perfect, law abiding citizen. But his word was his bond and he always said what he meant and meant what he said.

He loved to fish, garden, smoke meat and listen to down-home blues. He took pleasure in sharing his fish and garden vegetables with others. Strangers were welcome at his cookout yard parties. He was always willing to help, and your money was always good with him. He could not rest until he payed you back, even if it left him broke.

After his mother passed away, George worked with members of his extended family to bring the families together for picnics and other planned activities.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Jeremiah and Vinnie, his son George Jr. and his youngest brother, Darrell Ray Davis Sr.

George leaves to cherish his memories his daughter, Teresa, his son Mike, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three brothers, four sisters and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
