Giovanni Diliano Diego was born to Monica Diego on March 1, 2010, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Janelle Simms received a call shortly before Giovanni's second birthday, requesting assistance with his care. Janelle and David answered the call without hesitation. Giovanni was legally adopted soon after and became Giovanni Diliano Simms. Giovanni attended Chandler Elementary School in Bellevue, Nebraska, from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade. Giovanni moved to Converse, Texas, with his father and mother in 2022, where he attended Judson Middle School. On May 25, 2023, he completed seventh grade.
Giovanni was a happy youngster who liked to play video games and hang out with his friends. Math was his favorite subject. He also enjoyed cooking with his father who was his buddy. He traveled with his family and recently obtained a US passport in preparation for a trip to Greece in September 2023.
" Gio" will be remembered by his family for many of his favorite habits. He never said goodbye. Instead, his salutations to his parents were "I love you, mom, I love you dad". At night he would walk in the room without knocking and say, 'Good night Mom, Good night Dad, I love you, Mom, I love you Dad". He was mom's "Brown Sugar Baby". He was dad's "Buna".
Giovanni leaves to mourn his passing, parents David and Janelle Simms, Birth mother Monica Diego, siblings Melvin Thomas, Denecia Welch, Diamond Simms, Octavious Josue Alejo-Diego, Carlos Gabriel Alejo-Diego, and Tracey Tate. Grandmothers Juana Diego and Jackie Wright. Grandfather James Simms. Aunt Shasta Holland, and Uncles Carlos Diego, Brandon Wright, Rolland Wright, and Oscar Garcia. He leaves a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
