Gordon was born the second of six children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max Wayne and Joyce Louise (Rhodes) Honaker, also by his older brother, Mike (Buffie). Surviving siblings include Janelle, Tim, Gaye (Mike), and Pat.
Gordon is also survived by the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Sherye, daughters Kara (James/"Ice") Benford and Kirsten (Dave) Carter, grandchildren DaRelle (Serena) Benford and Tanisha (Josh) Jones, great-grandchildren Amiyah, Josiyah, Brekyn, and Janoah, as well as many other loving relatives, countless friends, and supportive neighbors.
Gordon grew up in the Omaha area, graduated from Central High School, and worked at Mutual of Omaha, Kutak Rock; Huey, ConAgra, and finished his career at OFI (Office Furniture Installers).
Gordon enjoyed coaching youth soccer, attending Husker football games, cheering on his grandchildren at sports events, and being an active member in his church. He loved people and making them laugh, he kept a positive outlook on life, and he always had a famous "gordyism" on the tip of his tongue. Gordon was an avid fisherman and enjoyed time at his favorite place, the cabin in Minnesota. Most importantly, Gordon was a family man, totally devoted to his bride, and loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His most cherished times were those spent with his family.
Up until the very end, Gordon professed his strong faith to others and was grateful for the amazing health care provided by his physicians, Methodist Hospital, and St. Croix Hospice.
