James Johnson

January 25, 1966 — August 20, 2024

James Henry Johnson passed away August 20, 2024 at the age of 58 years.

James, better known by Jim to those close to him, was beloved by his family. Jim's life began in Wiesbaden, Germany on January 25th, 1966. His parents, James and Erna later added to their family, giving him two sisters, Stephanie and Carrie.

Jim excelled in sports in his youth and had many trophies from soccer, baseball, basketball, and football to prove it, and unlike today, in those days you didn't get them just for participating. During his childhood he had the nickname "Flash".

Jim joined the Air Force where he became a photographer and was stationed in various places including Clark AB, Philippines. While there Jim was awarded "This Week's Someone Special" which was a feature of the Philippine Flyer. The feature read the following: "Amn. James Johnson, still photographic specialist, in relationship to his co-workers, has a lot of motivation which improves working conditions. His knowledge in photography enhances his photographic exposures. His ability to communicate with the subjects that need to be photographed improves the final product. Recognizing that extra hard work is what this award is all about. Congratulations Airman Johnson you are Someone Special." He was also mentioned in an article in the Air Force Times during a recovery effort for shipwreck victims when an inter-island cargo-passenger ship sunk approximately 95 miles southwest of Manila. The article states: "Although he doesn't have any official rescue training, the on-call photographer, Amn. James H. Johnson, contributed to the whole rescue mission. He worked with the survivors and helped us reposition our equipment."

Jim's post in Nebraska is where he met and fell in love with a woman named Karen.

Marriage and two babies soon followed, a daughter, Danielle, and a son, Bradley. Jim and Karen have been together ever since. After a few moves to different states, they ended up back in Nebraska where they have remained. Over the years, Jim has worked as a manager at Qualex, Airlite Plastics, Circo, and Nightcap Management. He has always supported his family. Not just financially but has also always been there whenever he was needed to help his family and friends through the tough times or to cheer them on through the good.

The last year of Jim's life was a struggle, but he had a lot of support from those who loved him, including family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. Through it all, Jim maintained his very dry sense of humor and had those around him laughing often. Jim's family would like to express their appreciation for all of the support that friends, co-workers, and neighbors have given over this tough time.

Jim will be deeply missed.
