Janette Renee Kubr, 65, peacefully passed away on May 23, 2021, in Omaha, NE, surrounded by family and a close friend at Florence Home Healthcare in Omaha.
Janette was born on December 22, 1955 in Omaha, NE, to Robertson and Phyllis Sexton and graduated from Omaha North High School in 1974.
After graduation, Janette married her high school sweetheart, George Kubr, on September 26, 1974 in Council Bluffs, IA. They were married for 33 years and had two children together before divorcing in 2007.
Janette began her career as a cosmetologist, which she enjoyed for over 15 years, working her way up into management. Upon leaving that field due to carpal tunnel syndrome, Janette held a variety of jobs throughout the rest of her working years, most notably in childcare and later as a phone representative for non-profits.
Janette was best known for her love of working with young children, from after school care for the public schools to the preschool at First Christian Church in Norfolk, NE, and eventually owning her own daycare--Busy Little Hands. She also enjoyed handcrafting, and over her life delved into ceramics, needlepoint, cross stitch, sewing, and crochet. She passed her love of the fine arts to her children by taking them to galleries and events when she could, and by encouraging them to be in all manner of extracurricular activities, from sports to theater and in between.
Janette loved nature, and took her kids to the Henry Doorly Zoo every summer, sometimes weekly. Although opportunities were few and far between, she also loved going for walks and hikes in nature, from Hummel Park in Omaha to the great Redwoods and Sequoias in California to the Badlands of South Dakota.
Janette also was a faithful church attender and bible study participant for most of her adult life, and fostered the faith of her children by her example.
Janette is survived by her mother, Phyllis Sexton of Bellevue; her children, Leslie Levy - daughter, of Petaluma, CA, Robbie and Jacquie Kubr - son and daughter-in-law, of Dallas, GA; her sisters, Nancy Smith of Papillion and Julie Smith of Omaha; six grandsons, three granddaughters, and one great grandson.
Janette is preceded in death by her ex-husband, George Kubr, her father, Robertson Sexton, and her brother, Timothy Sexton.
A memorial service for Janette will be held on Saturday, June 5th at 2:00 PM at Good Shepherd Funeral Home in Omaha.
Flowers may be delivered to Good Shepherd for Janette's service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts or donations can be sent to Janetter Kubr Memorial, 427 4th Street, Petaluma, CA 94952.
