Jeremiah Lewis was born on May 6, 1951 in Earle, Arkansas to James Lewis and Idessia (Moss) Lewis. He was Idessia’s eight child and the fourth son of their thirteen children. In his childhood days he grew up in Arkansas, Caruthersville, Missouri and finished his schooling in Elkhart, Indiana. Jay met the love of his life Mary Holloman, and they married and had three sons to their union. Jermaine Lewis, Cornelius Lewis, and Adrian Lewis. He was crafted at painting cars and that’s what he did for several years. When Jay’s marriage ended in divorce he relocated to Omaha, Nebraska close to his mother, brothers, and sisters.
Jeremiah accepted Christ as his personal savior when he came to Nebraska and this was one of his testimonies of how he got saved on the highway headed to Omaha.
He worked several jobs while in Omaha painting cars and Campbell Soup until they closed and then he worked at The Double Tree Hotel as a custodian until he retired.
Jeremiah attended Robinson Memorial Church of God in Christ. He played the drums and was active in the church. Later on Jay met and married Doris (Rankin) Lewis and to their union came their special son named Brian Lewis.
Jeremiah was a person who stayed to himself. When you met him, you liked him. He loved to sing and had a very nice voice. His favorite was quartet singing and also smooth jazz. When he discovered Gospel jazz it made his day.
It was very hard to accept Jay’s diagnosis. Lewy Body, dementia, and Parkinsons. We discovered that he was advanced further along then we thought so this was a triple threat to the end but Jeremiah was brave until the very end. When his name was called by the Almighty he went peacefully. We will miss his quirky sense of humor.
Jeremiah was preceded in death by his parents James and Idessia Lewis (Omaha, NE); brothers James Motton (Caruthersville, MO), Charles Lewis and Ernest Lewis (Elkhart, IN); sisters Lucille Malone (Omaha, NE) and Doris J. Lewis.
Jeremiah Lewis is survived by his four sons Jermaine Lewis, Cornelius Lewis, Adrian Lewis (Michigan), and Brian Lewis (Omaha, NE); brothers John & Bonnie Lewis Sr., Roy H. Lewis (Omaha, NE); sisters Mamie & Jay B. Robinson Sr., Lizzie & Bishop John O. Ford Sr., Betty A. Fairley, and Patricia A. Lewis all of (Omaha, NE), Corine Lewis (Elkhart, IN); sister-in-law Erma J.
