John (Jonnie) Hamers age 71 of Omaha, NE, passed away on June 5, 2023, at Methodist Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. John was born on October 12, 1951, in Carroll, Iowa, to Ray and Dee Hamers. He grew up in Carroll and after high school left Iowa to find his way in the world. Making his living in construction, he lived in both California and Colorado for the next 20 years. Jonnie loved life and was always up for an adventure.
When visiting family in Omaha, Jonnie met Nadine and the two of them built a life together in Omaha for the next 35 years. A natural athlete, his favorite past time was playing golf with friends and following his favorite sports teams. He and Nadine loved traveling and took numerous trips around the country tackling new golf courses and sightseeing. His perfect day was spent playing a round of golf with friends and celebrating afterwards with a cocktail.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Dee Hamers and brother Jerry. He is survived by the love of his life, Nadine Hinners; siblings Jake, Jimmy (Jeanette), Barbi (Steve Hughes), Jeff (Patti) and Bethi (Mark Lawler). Survivors also include his nieces Erica Tesla and Kristen DeLaney and nephews Nick and AJ Hamers. Cherishing his memory also is Nadine's family including her mother Margaret Hinners and siblings Dan Hinners (Gina), Denise Doyel, Liesa Meislahn (Jon), Joe Hinners (Karen), Annette Dotts (Jeff), Mike Hinners, Megan Hinners, and many nieces and nephews.
Jonnie will always be remembered for his big hugs. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held on June 24th from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at Charlie's on the Lake, Omaha, NE.
