Karla (Loerch) Manzel, age 71, passed away at Nebraska Medicine on April 18, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. The oldest of three kids, she was born April 11, 1952 in Omaha, NE and grew up in Lincoln, NE with parents Karl and Leah (Cameron) Loerch.
Karla pursued her passion for helping people through a nursing degree from Clarkson College in Omaha, NE and went on to earn her Master's in Nursing. She worked as a bedside nurse, in hospital management and spent the second half of her career devoted to wound ostomy before retiring.
She married the love of her life in Colorado and returned to Nebraska to raise their family in Bellevue. She most recently moved to Syracuse, NE and loved every minute of being closer to family and her cherished grandchildren.
Karla enjoyed reading, gardening, music and chocolate. Her sense of humor and laugh would light up a room. She loved to sing and the sound of her humming around in the background will be sorely missed. Her family was her pride and joy, above all else. She loved her husband, three daughters and five grandchildren fiercely and there was nothing her hugs couldn't fix.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Leah (Loerch) Umberger; and her brother, Cameron Loerch.
Karla is survived by Robert Manzel, husband, of Syracuse, NE; daughters: Kayla (Jeff) Schroeder of Denver, CO; Lindsey (Derek) Teten of Otoe, NE; Leah Manzel (fiancé, Russell Thoms) of Syracuse, NE; five loving and doating grandchildren: Juliet, Adeline, and Marian Teten; Hannah and Cameron Schroeder.
Funeral service will be held at Luther Memorial Church in Syracuse, NE, at 2pm on Sunday, April 23rd. Dessert and family visitation will be held immediately following.
Contributions to a garden in Karla's memory may be directed to Kayla's Venmo: @cambobsmom ; or Lindsey's Home address.
