Katherine (Sommer) Dmyterko, age 69, passed away in Omaha, NE, on September 26, 2024. She was born on July 26, 1955, in Omaha, NE, to the late Frank Sommer Jr. and Donna (Caruso) Sommer. She married the love of her life, Alex Dmyterko on June 22, 1996, in Omaha, NE and they had a loving and dedicated relationship for over 28 years.
Kathy was a remarkable wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a loving surrogate mother and grandmother to countless family members, friends, and coworkers. A proud graduate of Omaha South High School in 1973, she went on to earn her associate's degree and built a successful career with AC Nielsen and Blue Cross Blue Shield Nebraska, where she was known for her dedication and loyalty. Kathy's legacy extended far beyond her professional life. She was a legendary cook, filling not only our stomachs but also our hearts with love. Her nurturing spirit showed in the care she gave to her vibrant gardens and the wildlife she adored. Kathy had a special passion for the holidays and believed that no one should be alone. She invited those without family to join hers, offering a meal, laughter, games, memories, and, most importantly, love. Anyone who came, was no longer a guest-you were family.
Kathy will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and the joy she brought everyone. Most of all, she loved her family deeply and is survived by her husband Alex Dmyterko, 3 siblings Frank Sommer (Pat), Dan Sommer (Julie), Barb (Sommer) Brown, 4 in-laws Nick Dmyterko, John Dmyterko (Vicki), Tony Dmyterko (Kris), Mary Rosetti, 5 children Sam Briganti (Jaime), Scott Briganti (Tara), Craig Briganti, Michael Dmyterko (Amy), Cynthia Dmyterko, 10 grandchildren Sophia Briganti, Ethan Briganti, Hayley Briganti, Grayson Briganti, Emily Briganti, Jacob Dmyterko (Erin), Faith Dmyterko, Hope Dmyterko, Zach Christiansen, Nick Christiansen, 2 great-grandchildren Daniel Dmyterko, Joshua Dmyterko, and many nieces and nephews.
