Lee “Butch” Dunbar was born January 23, 1951 to James Sr. and Lugene Dunbar in Omaha, NE. Lee graduated from North High School. After graduating, Lee enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served in the Vietnam War. Lee received an honorary discharge. When returning home, he began a career with the U.S. Postal Service. Following his brothers footsteps, he joined the Omaha Fire Department where he quickly found his passion for helping people. After several years of service, Lee transitioned to the position of Paramedic at times volunteering on the Life Flight Crew. He thrived and was highly respected receiving a promotion to Captain. He was awarded several high honors for his heroic actions and retired after serving a dedicated 24 years.
Lee enjoyed karate, teaching for several years. He also played baseball, for the Omaha Angels a Semi-Pro team coached by his father. His love for football, lead to him being co-owner of The Little Red Machine/Sawazer/ Omaha Bengals a well know Little League team in North Omaha that had a major impact on hundreds of youth in the community. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, throwing darts even winning a National Championship in Vegas. He also enjoyed working on cars, traveling, and spending time with family. Lee was a member of the New Rising Star Church, where he sang in the choir and drove the church van.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Victoria Boston Dunbar, sisters Jolene Dunbar, Bessie Jones, Emma Comer.
Lee is survived by his children, Lee Dunbar Jr, Cornell Dunbar, Shelly Chavez, Curtis Edwards, Malcolm Bogan, Aleshia Bogan, Angel Dunbar. Brothers, William Dunbar Jr. (Sharon) James N Dunbar Sr. (Lou Dean) Sisters: Athelene Johnson (Roger) Kathlene Montgomery and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends.
