It is with great sadness to announce the recent passing of Leon Thomas Cotten, 66 years of age, of Omaha, NE. Leon bravely fought cancer twice within the last 8 years of his life. Leon met peace on Sunday, October 15th, 2023.
Leon was the third born to parents Leon and Virgina. He and his family moved from Carter Lake, Iowa to Omaha, NE where he attended Morton Middle School and Burke High School. Leon spent his early years working with his brother in his father's family business. Leon married Diana (John) Cotten on July 17th, 1982. He worked as an over the road truck driver to support his family. Leon and Diana lived briefly in Odessa, Texas before settling in Omaha, NE to raise Jason, Aaron, and Nicole.
Leon enjoyed his family, football, good music, and a cold beer. He was known to spend an afternoon shooting guns or bowling a high score! He had strong convictions regarding his faith. Keeping tradition was important in how he lived his life. Leon was generous, felt deeply, and laughed wholeheartedly. In his later years he shared his life with longtime companion Sarah (Sally) Steiner. He courageously beat colon cancer 8 years ago prior to his final battle with laryngeal cancer.
Leon is survived by his children Jason, Aaron, and Nicole. His grandchildren Brittney, Jason Jr., Brandon, Lux, Lucas, Lorelei, Madison, Paige, and Peyton. His siblings Gary, Cherry, Judy, and Starla. He is predeceased by his parents Leon and Virgina. Along with Diana and Sally.
A burial service will be held at Grange Cemetery in Honey Creek, Iowa on Friday, October 20 at 1:00 P.M. The Cotten family asks this to be a private interment. If friends desire, please send memorial condolences to Good Shepherd 3809 N 90th Street Omaha, NE 68134.
