LeRoy Grammer

Born November 9, 1939 – Passed April 13, 2025 at Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, NE.

LeRoy John Grammer, of Omaha Nebraska was born on November 9, 1939 to Charles (Aldo) and Helen (Werner) Grammer in Fairbury, Nebraska. LeRoy was one of eight children. He grew up in Endicott, Nebraska where he attended elementary school until he moved on to Fairbury High School, where he played basketball and baseball. Wildcat Lanes Bowling Alley is where he met his wife, Bonnie (Campbell) Grammer. They married in December 1966 in Omaha, Nebraska where they started their life in LaVista, NE and later moved to Ralston, Nebraska where they raised their 4 children Keith Sanborn, Kevin Sanborn, Denise (Grammer) Bond, and Dawn (Grammer) Friesel. LeRoy worked for Holmes Freight Lines until he retired after 29 years. He belonged to the Teamsters Union Local 554. During that time, they loved spending time with friends, having dinner club once a month, and camping on weekends. He loved to fish and take his grandkids fishing at a young age. He loved watching almost any sport on tv but cherished the times he was able to attend a husker football game or baseball game with family. In his younger days he loved to watch boxing and hockey.

LeRoy was a stranger to no one, and he loved talking to anyone that passed him by. He especially loved the littles. He was famous for his Donald Duck imitation and put smiles on many faces over the years. LeRoy was a kind and genuine man with a big heart and always put others before himself.

After he retired, he and Bonnie loved to travel. They lived in California and Texas but eventually moved back to Omaha to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They made several trips to Florida to visit their granddaughter, Michelle. His most precious times were traveling with Bonnie and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. LeRoy loved his family more than words can describe.

LeRoy became ill in late March. On March 29, 2025, LeRoy was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. He was admitted to the Josie Harper Hospice House on April 8, 2025, where he passed on April 13, 2025.

LeRoy is survived by his wife Bonnie Grammer (Omaha, NE); son Keith Sanborn (Fremont, NE); son Kevin Sanborn and wife Sandra (Omaha, NE) and children Tamara (Josh), Amanda (Trevor) and Brittany (Jacob); daughter Denise Bond and husband Steve (Gretna, NE) and children Michelle (Josh); Kadie, Molly (Kyle) and Travis (Silvia); daughter Dawn Friesel and husband Tim (Pawnee City, NE) and children Abby and Madison (Blake); brother Terry Grammer and wife Joleen (Endicott, NE); sister Georgene Hoffman (Texas); sister Karen Horner (Ceresco, NE) and Carol Horner; sister-in-law Millie Greenfield (Afton, IA); sister-in-law MaryAnn Grammer (Council Bluffs, IA); and many great grandchildren.
