Lina Mae (Horton) Pratt was born March 11, 1929 in Holmes County, MS to Nellie Sample & Marshall "Kid" Horton.
Seeking to make a better life, at an early age, she moved to Omaha, NE & attended South High School.
Mae, as we all called her, loved travelling, shopping, & was deeply involved in her community. While in high school, she developed a passion for hair styling & enrolled in cosmetology school, where she obtained her license & certifications to become a Hair Stylist. As a passionate Hair Stylist, she successfully operated in this capacity for over 50 years.
Throughout the Community, it was often declared, "No one could lay a press & tight curls on you like Lina Mae."
Mae was a hard worker, a devoted Mom & Friend. She loved her Family & went the extra mile to teach & apply her application of love. Whether it was the providing of daily necessities, the open-door policy of her home, the heartfelt nurturing or how she extended her warm, steady right hand while protecting & providing for her Family--her life journey exemplifies the motto "Love Hard, Work Hard & Fight Hard for the moralities of Life."
Special moments held near & dear to Mae's heart were hosting Family gatherings. Rather it was a Christmas celebration or honoring Family member's birthdays, all gatherings were special moments shared & occassions to be cherished.
Mae married Juneal Pratt at a very young age. No children were born to this union.
Years later, Mae met the love of her life, William Carr, with whom they reared seven children until his death in 1971. Mae was a dutiful member of Mt Olive Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Matthew Titsworth & faithfully served on the Usher Board. She later attended New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Walter P. Jones until her health began to fail her.
The word "Entitlement" is defined as "the fact of having a right to something."
Oh, what a privilege & honor it would be to have all of Mae's Family adopt the connectings of their bloodline to Mae so that the protocols of life would shine in their lives.
These protocols are: (1) Live Hard (2) Work Hard (3) Fight for the moralities of Life.
Let us all live in forgiveness, especially with Family. Also, please remember an unjust law or unjust life is no life at all.
Let's also apply the principles of Mae's heart, so we all can have just about anything life our hearts desire.
