Louis Richard Smith Jr. was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 3, 1948. He was the first-born child of Louis Sr. and Velma Smith. He attended Druid Hill, Lothrop, Horace Mann, graduated from Technical High School in 1966. Louis played basketball for the Tech Trojans and his main area of study was Vocational Foods (Study of Food Services).
Always good at accounting, after graduating from high school, Louis was offered a Managerial position at McDonalds's. Before his career could take off, he was drafted by the United States Army for the Vietnam War. Louis was a supply clerk for the Army. It was his job to collect the remains of fallen soldiers and send their bodies stateside. Louis was honorably discharged from the Army receiving several commendations for good conduct, professionalism, and leadership.
Preceded in death by his parents Louis and Velma, sisters Cindy Rose, Joanne, and his brother Herman.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Smith, daughters DeVonna Guy (Michael Guy) Gulfport, MS, Herlicia Valentine of Muscle Shoals, Al, son Richard Johnson, Omaha, Nebraska; Sisters: Karen Johnson, Plattsmouth, NE, Fern, Stephanie Barnes (Sean), Linda, and Shannon, Omaha, NE; Brothers: Robert, John Omaha, NE, and Kenneth Bremerton, WA; Grandchildren: Brandon and DeVon Guy, Andre Valentine, Jenna and Richard
