Lula Pearl Plater Smith was born May 21, 1957 in Extension, Louisiana to the late Fred and Elizabeth Plater. Lula moved to Omaha, NE with her family in 1966. Lula attended Omaha Public Schools and Metropolitan Community College.
Lula was baptized at St. mark Baptist Church; she later became a member of Freestone Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Daryl C. Eure and a member of the usher board. Lula had several jobs, the latest at American Family Insurance from where she retired.
Lula enjoyed laughing and being the life of the party. She was outgoing and always ready for a challenge and a huge Nebraska football fan. Lula was the rock of her family and made a huge impact on all who came in contact with her.
Lula was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Elizabeth Plater, granddaughter Antoinette Plater, grandson Eltio Plater Jr., and husband Steven Smith, ex-husband John McPherson Sr.
Lula leaves to cherish fond memories sons John McPherson Jr., Eltio Plater, Lornell McPherson (Melissa), daughter Shawn Plater. 4 sisters; Cora James, Oceanside, CA, Susie Woodruff, Mary and Corine Plater of Omaha, 6 brothers James (Mack) Lightning, San Antonio, TX.
Fred Taunya), Larry, Jamie (Debra) Plater, Matthew Battles, all of Omaha, Tony (Sidni) Plater of San Diego, CA. 25 grand-children, 24 great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and a special Aunts Lenner Toliver and Nita Norman.
