Margery (Coenen) Rosenthal, Age 98
Born September 11, 1925, died February 3, 2024
Margery was born at Defiance, Iowa to Margaret and Carl Coenen, the third of nine children. She attended college at the College of Saint Mary, in Omaha, and later received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Omaha University and UNO. She taught elementary school for 25 years, starting at a one-room schoolhouse near Defiance, and later in Omaha and Council Bluffs.
In 1950 Marge married Jack Rosenthal (1925-1990). They separated in 1965 (when her youngest was one year old) and divorced in 1971. So it was as a single mom that she raised her six children, sent them all to college, earned her own two college degrees and bought and sold two houses. She was strong and inspiring.
She is preceded in death by her parents, infant brother Delbert, brothers Charles and Donald Coenen, sisters Wilma (Frank) Rogers, Marian (Dwayne) Barry, Norma (Ray) Hansen, Constance (Don) Petty.
She is survived by children John (Linda) Rosenthal of Fisherville, KY, Marilou (Frank) Marcinski and Art (Paula) Rosenthal of Omaha. Tom (Jean) Rosenthal of Boise, ID, Margaret (Chuck) Magnus of Ponca City, OK, Renee (Dave) Reiff of Omaha, sister Ellen (Dennis) Dotzler, 9 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be on February 17 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Omaha, with a rosary at 9:30 AM, a mass of Christian burial at 11:00 and interment at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Defiance, IA at 2:45.
