Mildred Jean Vandiver

May 7, 1931 — September 23, 2021

Mildred Jean Vandiver, 90, passed away September 23, 2021 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Mildred was born on May 7, 1931, in Hyden, Kentucky, to Lou Emma Walker. When her mother passed away while Mildred was yet an infant, her grandmother and grandfather raised her along with their 13 children.
She married Clayton Vandiver in Hazard, Kentucky in 1955. They raised 3 children together during their 65 year union. She was a dedicated mother who loved her family unconditionally. Mildred became a Christian at an early age and infused the love of God into her children.

Mildred served our nation as a devoted wife to a career Air Force Staff Sergeant, maintaining her household throughout various countries around the world. The Vandivers relocated to Omaha in 1975 after Mildred's husband retired from the military. During the 1980's and 1990's, she worked as an educational aide in the Omaha Public School District. Working with young children inspired her to obtain her GED. Mildred and her husband owned and operated a small but successful business named I Remember Antiques, located in the Benson Business District.

Mildred is preceded in death by mother, Lou Emma Walker; husband, Clayton Vandiver; son, Miles K. Vandiver. She is survived by sister: Betty Johnson; children: Clayton Vandiver (Lisa), and Lisa Quaites (James); grandchildren: Thomas Clayton Vandiver, Capris Quaites, and Candace Quaites; great-grandchildren: Thomas Neil Vandiver and Andrea Vandiver; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
