Neal "Dutch" Borchman, athlete, entrepreneur, and friend, passed away at the age of 77 in Omaha, NE. Born in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, Neal's life was one that could be described as fun and full of energy. Whether on the field, the court, at work, or with friends and family, his wit, wisdom (and occasional stubborn streaks) were hallmarks of his strong-willed personality.
Neal's early years were shaped by a love for sports and an active lifestyle. He grew up in Omaha and was a standout athlete known for his competitive spirit. Neal lettered in football, baseball and basketball at Central High School, where his talent on the field and court garnered admiration from teammates and opponents alike. His life was full of activity and he never liked to sit for too long.
Following graduation from University of Nebraska - Lincoln, Neal made the decision to join his family's business, Borchman Construction. His deep knowledge of construction led him to eventually establish his own company, Leighton Corporation. After retiring, he embarked on a meaningful third chapter at Lamp Rynearson & Associates as a Construction Observer. Even in the face of illness, he had high hopes of returning to this job he loved so much.
Neal's life was defined by sense of humor and a sharp, quick wit. Whether sharing a funny story at gatherings, cracking a joke during a business meeting, or entertaining friends, Neal knew how to make people laugh. His humor came naturally and was always delivered in a way that made everyone feel at ease.
Neal is survived by his daughter Brittni Redding (Chad) and grandchildren Cale and Reese Redding, beloved companion Amy Walstrom and her son Ben Walstrom, sisters Karen Wilson (Breck) and Susan Suval and many other family members, friends, and colleagues.
An open-house style celebration of Neal's life will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 4-7pm at B.Bar (Castle Barrett lower entrance) at 4330 Leavenworth St, Omaha, NE 68105. Brief remarks will be held at 4:30.
