Nelson Lampe

February 5, 1950 — December 29, 2024

Nelson Lampe passed away surrounded by family December 29, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Bambia, daughter Melanie Epps, son Benjamin Lampe, brother Doug Lampe and numerous extended family members. He has three wonderful grandchildren, Connor, Leo, and Clara.

Nelson attended college at the University of California-Hayward after returning from service in Vietnam. He was awarded multiple citations while in Vietnam, which was how Nelson did everything in life, with service and responsibility. He was thorough, organized, and driven to complete what he started. It served him well as he came up through the ranks from copy editor to editor at newspapers around the country. He finished his professional life as an editor for the Associated Press in Omaha.

Nelson loved music, so much so that he had a secret desire to try Broadway someday. Instead, he applied his talents to the Omaha theater community. When not in a theater production, he loved reading, cooking, and fishing. He loved doing jazz hands at babies, wherever he went, as he loved babies and making them smile. He loved dogs and helped in the successful rescue of so many dogs, from volunteering at the shelter to welcoming them into his home.Nelson and Bambia were to have been married for 50 years next summer. He supported and cared for his family each day, whenever and wherever possible.

The family requests that remembrances be made in the form of donations to Bellevue Little Theatre, where he got his start on the Omaha-area stage:   http://www.theblt.org/donations.html
