Ruth Belle Watkins

February 28, 1935 — April 24, 2018

Originally born in Hope, Arkansas the fifth of 16 children. Ruths family migrated to Omaha, NE from Arkansas. When asked about her life reflecting at 80 years she said, We wanted for nothing that I could remember. Lump, or Sugar Lump learned from the beginning of her life from generations of family helping and caring for each other and their community, that love heals all things.
Ruths personality and spirit of taking care of people manifested itself in her career choice. She was accepted to nursing school at North Dakota and became the first woman in her family to graduate from college. She received a nursing degree from St. Andrews School of Nursing in 1958, and soon began what would become an over 40-year career as a RN with the Veterans Hospital.
Ruth lived her life and passed on her infinite capacity to heal with love to those who knew her best through her unconditional unyielding examples of applying her faith and loves power over all situations.
She was a wonderful supportive, and loving mother to her 5 children; always knowing, with a deep faith in God, believing that love truly heals all.
