Sally L. Gilbreath

August 30, 1947 — December 19, 2024

Omaha

Sally Louise Gilbreath heard the words “Well done, my good and faithful servant!” from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 19, 2024. She was born on August 30, 1947, to George and Gayle Schmidt in Omaha Nebraska. She lost her mother Gayle to cancer at the tender age of 4 and then the Lord brought Dorothy Buchardt into her life. George and Dorothy were married, and Dorothy was lovingly known as Mom for more than 60 years.

Sally graduated from North High in 1965, married Ed Gilbreath her junior year at University of Nebraska at Kearney, graduated with a B.A. degree in Education and moved to Fremont, Nebraska to raise a family. Her children and 9 grandchildren all experienced Sally’s joy, optimism and infectious laugh. She shared grand stories about accomplishments and extended grace at every turn.

After her divorce, Sally went back to school and discovered God’s calling at Grace University. On December 18, 1995, she wrote, “Through my life’s experiences and the way God has put me together, I am very excited to be on the threshold of a career that makes my heart sing, a Christian Counselor.” Sally graduated from Grace University and became a Licensed Independent Mental Health Professional. She wrote out the following mission statement: “I see my role as a therapist to co-journey my clients from where they are to where they want to be.” Sally knew no barriers and relied on the Holy Spirit to counsel her as she counseled others. Sally loved us all so well.

Sally was proceeded in death by her mother Gayle, father George and mother who raised her Dorothy, brother Gary and dear friend Joe. She is survived by her children Mark (Cindy) Gilbreath, Brian Gilbreath, Kara (Guillermo) Espinoza and 9 grandchildren. Tyler (Emily) Gilbreath, Connor Gilbreath, Anna (Eric) Reding, Alexandra Espinoza, Guillermo David (Cassidy) Espinoza, Eva Gilbreath, Ellie Gilbreath, Noah Gilbreath, Julia Gilbreath. Her siblings, Dave Schmidt, Susie (Kelly) Nicklin, sister-in-law Jan Schmidt, nieces and nephews, cousins John Chambers, Jan Campion and many other loving family and friends.

Sally was an amazing prayer warrior as she once wrote, “Prayer became as automatic as breathing and just as significant.” In leu of flowers or memorials would you honor this memory of mom by praying to our perfect Father in Heaven for someone each day.
