Sametrice Anissia Johnson, lovingly known as “Sam” and “Meechie” was born on September 12, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois, to Samuel White and Joyce White. In 1970, at just two years of age, Sam and her family relocated to Omaha, Nebraska. At the age of 13, Sam accepted Christ into her life, setting the foundation for her unwavering faith.
She graduated from Northwest High School and later attended Bellevue University. In 1988, Sam was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Cierra Monét Johnson, whom she adored. She took immense joy in dressing Cierra in elegant dresses and bows, cherishing her role as a mother.
In her early adult years, Sam was devoted to her work, her family, and her church community. She especially looked forward to the annual family road trips to Lilbourn, Missouri, to visit loved ones. Sam worked at Charles Drew Health Center before moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 2004, where she thrived as an insurance specialist.
In 2012, Sam was diagnosed with lung cancer, a challenge she faced with grace and resilience. Shortly after her diagnosis, she relocated to Lakeland, Florida, where her employer graciously allowed her to continue working remotely. Florida became her sanctuary — her “happy place.”
Sam loved the Lord deeply and found joy in attending church. She delighted in going on cruises with her mother and inspiring creativity in children through crafting. She was affectionately known as “Aunt Sam” to many, and her warmth, creativity, and generous spirit left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Known as the “Glitter Queen,” Sam had a love for all things gold and shiny. Her tight hugs, sweet scent, and magnetic personality made her unforgettable. Above all, Sam was proud of her daughter, Cierra, and often spoke about her with immense pride.
In September 2021, Sam received the joyous news that she would become a grandmother. The anticipation of welcoming her granddaughter, Charlee Monét, filled her heart with excitement. In early 2022, she made the heartfelt decision to return to Omaha to be closer to her family. Charlee quickly became the love of Sam’s life, and their bond was inseparable. To Charlee, she was lovingly known as “Suga.”
On November 21, 2024, Sam transitioned peacefully in her sleep. She is preceded in death by her biological father, Samuel White; sister, Shanice White; grandparents, Lillie B. Hoskin, John E. Hoskin, Alberta White, and James White.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Cierra Johnson; granddaughter, Charlee Monét Johnson; mother, Joyce Frezell (Arthur); father, Archie Frezell Sr. (Darlene); sisters, Felicia Frezell (San), Artnetta Stearns, Ashley Wilson, Katrina White (Denver, CO); brothers, Archie Frezell Jr. (Emily) and Samuel White; nieces, Sheretta Green, Tylor McClinton LaJoy Green, Jayla Wilson, Tink Wilson, Rylee Frezell; nephews, Jordan Frezell, Justin Frezell, Joshua Johnson-Frezell, Jacob Frezell, Major Frezell, Elliott Boles, and Dashawn Lewis; and very close friends, Jerry Johnson and Michael O’Neil.
Sam will forever be remembered for her unwavering faith, her generous spirit, and the love she shared with everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
