Scott Alan Mason

April 28, 1955 — October 4, 2021

Scott Alan Mason (66) passed away as a result of complications from COVID-19 on October 4,
2021. He passed peacefully with his family by his side at the University of Nebraska Medical
Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Scott was born in Beatrice, Nebraska and attended elementary through high school in Wymore,
Nebraska, graduating in 1973. He attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha and later
Nebraska Christian College. Scott was an accomplished athlete in both high school and college
sports, including football and wrestling, until he suffered a back injury while playing college
football at UNO.
In 1977, Scott married Kristine Macklin and together they had five children. Scott and Kris
divorced in 1992 and in 2006, he married Anita (Bergmeier, Palmquist) and became stepfather
to Anita's three children.
Scott was both charismatic and kind and never met a stranger. As a teenager, he found Christ
and started preaching at churches in and near his hometown of Wymore, Nebraska at the age
of 16. He served as a preacher at several churches and in 1979 Scott and his twin brother
Steve started a series of churches in Southern California. In the 1980's, he was involved in a
ministry in communist Romania, where he made several trips to provide help for oppressed
Christians, bringing them medicine, supplies and bibles and ministering to them as they
navigated dangerous situations.
While Scott never stopped preaching at churches across the country, he also followed in his
father's footsteps working as a grain broker. He spent most of his early career in California and
spent the later years of his career working at several brokerage firms in Nebraska and Iowa.
Scott loved people fiercely and was incredibly proud of his family, especially his children. He
never missed an opportunity to express his feelings and encourage those he loved most. His
legacy will live on in his family and friends and the countless people he helped throughout his
lifetime.
Scott is survived by his wife, Anita (Omaha); his children - Sarah Breen (Omaha), Seth Mason
(Sioux City, Iowa), Anna and husband Mike Maixner (Corpus Christi, Texas), Leah and husband
Corey Brecht (Austin, Texas), and James and wife Devin Mason (Compton, California); and his
stepchildren - Jennifer and husband Jordan Kroger (Omaha), Joel Palmquist (Omaha), and
Christopher Palmquist (Omaha). Scott is also survived by his siblings - twin brother Steve and
wife Darnelle Mason (California), sister Nancy Norris (Beatrice, Nebraska), sister Debbie Wright
(California), stepbrother Leonard Portillo (California), and stepbrother Guy Portillo (California);
and his stepparents Eugene "Jake" Schultze (Beatrice, Nebraska) and Eva Mason (Laughlin,
Nevada). Scott and Anita also have 19 beloved grandchildren.
Scott was preceded in death by his mother Neva (McPheron, Mason) Schultze; his father Martin
Mason; his niece Lisa Mason; his son-in-law Christopher Breen; his sister Linda Taylor; and his
stepbrother George Portillo.
Scott was honored at a small family celebration on October 7, 2021. A memorial service will be
held at Westside Baptist Church in Beatrice, Nebraska on Saturday, October 30th, at 10:30 a.m.
with Dennis McGuire and Glenn Wapelhorst officiating; a luncheon to follow. Memorials to For
