It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Mae Tate, age 88 on December 22, 2024. Born Shirley Mae Gildon on January 12, 1936, in Omaha, Nebraska to John H. and Minnie (Kirksey) Gildon, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her loving husband, James E. Tate; son Bruce Gildon; sister Lois Neely; and brothers John H. Jr. and Herbert Gildon.
Shirley was raised in South Omaha and graduated from South High school in 1953. Before retiring, she devoted many years of service to Western Electric, where her strong work ethic, dedication, and positive spirit earned the admiration of colleagues and friends. Shirley will be remembered for her warm smile, quick wit, and generous heart.
She is survived by her sons Ricky (Ronnetta), Eric (Cindy), Brian, and Kevin (Ruth) Gildon; her stepsons Gary (Terrie) Agee, Earl (Teresa), Dennis, David (Lucy) Tate; sister Cynthia Gildon; brothers Terry and Donald Gildon; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. She is also survived by her special friends Chestene Miller, Leola Jones and Liz Miller.
Shirley’s legacy of kindness, love and strength will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
