Stephen Nugen, age 68, passed away in Papillion, Nebraska, January 19, 2023. He was born April 15, 1954 to Stephen and Patricia (Dawson) Nugen in Butler, MO. Steve was an Air Force veteran and graduated from Iowa State University with a MS in Computer Engineering. Steve worked many years in government contracting before starting his own security consulting business called NugenSoft. He was a Senior Research Fellow and professor at University of Nebraska at Omaha until he retired in 2015. Steve's happiest moments were when he was teaching or trout fishing or anything regarding technology.
He was preceded in death by father, Stephen W. Nugen and sister, Nancy Nugen.
Steve is survived by Debbie Nugen - wife, of Papillion, Alexander Nugen - son, of Papillion, Liam Kettleborough - grandson, of Broken Bow, NE, Weston Nugen, grandson, of Papillion NE and Maci, granddaughter, of Papillion, NE, Patricia Nugen - mother of Overland Park, KS; siblings: Laurie Osipik (Darryl), Olathe, KS, Julie Newell (Henry), Independence, MO, Erin Horner, Paola, KS, Thile (Kara) Nugen Cooke (Andre), New York City, NY, Scott Nugen, Overland Park, KS, Nicole Nugen, LaVista, NE, Matthew Nugen (Kai), St Louis, MO. His nieces and nephews remember him as the teasing uncle from when they were kids and Colby Nugen, Omaha, NE who was more like a son than a nephew.
Steve will be buried at the Omaha National Cemetery with military honors.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, February 11th, noon - 2 p.m. at Papillion Landing Community Recreation Center, 1046 W. Lincoln Street, Papillion, NE in the Chrysalis Event Center Suite 3.
