Steve was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on February 26, 1954, to the late Harold Butler and Ann Lorraine Butler.

He is survived by his siblings, Jeff Butler, Kathy Butler (Smith), and Todd Butler; niece Jenna Butler; nephew, Joshua Smith; and all his great nieces and nephews.
