Steven Rydberg

December 3, 1959 — March 24, 2025

Steven John Rydberg was born on December 3, 1959, in Omaha, Nebraska to John and Joan Rydberg. The middle child, growing up with two sisters, Lori and Julie, may explain Steve's quiet demeanor. He couldn't get a word in edgewise!

Steve played baseball and football and hunted and fished with his dad. Along with those pursuits he was actively involved as a Boy Scout and, as an adult, a Scout Leader. Just to round out his talents he acted, sang and danced in musicals at Tech High and would bust out a show tune on occasion. He became a very skilled artist of stained glass which he continued to do until just a couple weeks before his passing. These pieces of art from him are cherished.

Many in Omaha know Steve as the "Santa on the Billboard". He delighted children and adults for years and years becoming "Santa" and visiting schools and private parties each Christmas. Yes, the beard was real!

Steve never met a stranger and talked to everyone. His calm manner always put everyone at ease but if you got him laughing the happy tears would come down his face. Despite his many surgeries and medical issues Steve was nearly always in a good mood. "We'll get through this" was said many times. He loved his family with everything he had, and they all know it. If you were a friend of Steve's, you were in special company. All memories of him are a blessing.

Steven John Rydberg is survived by his wife, Cindy, children, Mike (Shanda), Matt (Sandy)Danny (Rose) and Rachel. Grandchildren, Leyton, Lauryn, Landry, Alex, Elowyn, Calvin and Raijhin. Sister Lori (Rydberg) Dietrick with her husband Chuck, Skip Hagge (Julie's husband) along with many nieces and nephews. Leaving this earth before Steve were his parents, Joan and John Rydberg, sister Julie (Rydberg) Hagge and nephew Nathan Dietrick.
