Venita Lorraine Johnson

September 17, 1964 — January 24, 2021

Venita Lorraine Johnson was born September 17, 1964 in Omaha, Nebraska. The oldest child of five (4 daughters and 1 son) born to the union of the late Reverend Amos B. Johnson and Apostle Ruby L. (Evans) Johnson. After a brief stay in Nebraska, her parents moved to Flint, MI.

Venita was raised in the city of Flint and attended Flint public schools. It was at a young age in 12th Street Church of God under the late Rev. Samuel Turner, that she accepted the Lord and was baptized. She graduated from Flint Southwestern High School in 1982. Upon graduating, she moved back to Omaha, NE the city her father grew up in. It was during her time in Flint, that Venita made some of the friends that she kept in contact over the years. Friends such as Carmen Wilson-Jessop, Alma Jean Reid and the late Joyce Fay Henderson-James. Her cousin Deborah Wrenn of Omaha, was like another sister that she celebrated with during lifes ups and downs. They didnt do much without each other over the years.
While in Omaha, Venita worked in the childcare and office clerk fields for over 30 years, including work at Boys Town in Omaha. Venita was blessed in 1990 with twin fraternal bundles of joy: Brittney and Brandon Johnson. Her children were the apple of her eye and she would give her last to ensure that they had what they needed. Venita was so full of love to give that she became a foster mother to two lovely girls. Lela Gordon and Precious Gordon were with her for 7 years. She welcomed them into her family with open arms. Her love and care helped to carry them into the beautiful young ladies that they are today. Her happiest day was when she became a grandmother to Kyli Jae Johnson (parents Brandon Johnson & Kayla Lamb). During her time in Omaha, Venita attended the Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, under the late Bishop Vernon L. Richardson. Also, during the initial onset of her illness Faith Temple members under Bishop J. O. Ford provided care and support for her, for which we are eternally grateful. Venita also, as often as she was able, partnered with the ministry of her mother, Apostle Ruby L. Johnson, founder of New Generation Holiness Center Church International and Pathfinders International Network.

Due to an unexpected serious illness that God brought her through, Venita moved home to Flint, MI in 2018 to get back on her feet. It was the fight in Venita and her will to live, which helped her to get back on her feet. At that time she met a caregiver that grew to be a great friend. Sherida Sims and Venita were the closest of friends and remained in contact with each other even when they werent in the same city. It was during her time back in Flint, MI, that she came to be a part of Destiny Generation Church, formerly New Generation Holiness Center Church International, led by her brother, Pastor David Johnson. During her stay in Flint, she met her love, Joe L. Williams. Joe and Venita joined the Grace Cathedral Community Church, led by Pastor Kelly Richards. There, Venita joined the praise team. In October 2020, Venitas longing to get back to Omaha was very strong. She then returned home to anxiously await the birth of her expected second grandchild from Brandon and Kayla. In the final days of her life, she was able to greet the 2nd bundle of joy, Kassidy Rae Johnson.
