Victoria Jean Jones was born on April 26, 1937 to Goldie Houston and Hallie Wright at University Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended Omaha Public Schools. Victoria accepted Christ at an early age and attended New Light Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Raymond Hill for 40 years. She was an exceptional Sunday school teacher and loved to sing in the Church Choir. Upon its closing, she immediately joined Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church on April 2, 2017. Victoria was seen on many Sundays’ waving her right hand of fellowship as Pastor Arvie preached and sang her favorite song. She began her nursing career at St Catherine’s and retired from Bergan Mercy Hospital after 38 years of caring for patients. Victoria enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for her family. Her specialty was chicken and dumplings, dressing and lemon meringue pies.
July 2007, Victoria suffered a debilitating stroke which affected her left side. She remained in her home for 17 years with the support and care of her daughter, Carol Bowden until her death in 2020. Her care continued with the support of her grandson, family and in-home support agencies.
Victoria departed her earthly life on July 20, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Jones, mother Hallie Wright, father Goldie Houston, 10 siblings Donald, Elmira, James, Eargy, Irene, Helen, Annie Mae, Larsell, Alex, and Frank. Also preceded in death four daughters, Geraldine Akpan, Carol Bowden, Annie Mae Butler and Pamela Chambers. She leaves to cherish her memory, Vickie Adams, (Gale) Rachelle Walker, (Robert) Patricia Cast and Dominic Bowden and stepdaughter, Deborah Jones. Also cherishing her memories are a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and special nieces; Carolyn Williamson, Izetta Hall and Darlene Jernigan.
